Results from SECCC barrel races at the Kiowa County Fairgrounds
July 9, the Southeast Colorado Can Chasers (SECCC) hosted barrel racing at the Kiowa County Fairgrounds inEads.
SECCC, a nonprofit group, has been producing barrel races in southeast Colorado for many years. Tori Hawks fromWiley started SECCC, and LeAnn Ridley oversees the running of the operation.
Anyone can join the group with membership fees. The members have to work three races and find sponsors to help fund prizes. This group is a great supporter for the youth and the women and some men are very encouraging and help teaching the sport.
This group is also affiliated with larger barrel racing groups that help women earn points to go to participate in events in places like Las Vegas
There are several age groups in completion. At the end of the year SECCC award saddles and other awards to divisional champions. They are able to do this by having sponsors who support them.
Barrel races are mainly held in southeast Colorado from April thru October.
Several events have already been held in southeast Colorado, and more planned, including in Lamar July 23,Springfield July 30, Prowers County Sand & Sage Fair August 5, Kiowa County Fair September 11, and Holly Fair September 18-25.
