Secretary of State's Office asks registration group to stop confusing Colorado voters

An organization sending mailers to Coloradans encouraging them to register for the November 6 general election is contacting already registered voters, causing anger and confusion.

The Secretary of State's office has heard from a number of voters who have received a letter from "BeRegistered," prompting Deputy Secretary of State Suzanne Staiert to contact the organization.

"Colorado boasts one of the highest voter-registration rates in the nation," Staiert said in the letter. "That success is partly attributable to thoughtful efforts by private organizations to register eligible voters."

Staiert asked BeRegistered to put some more thought into their current practices. BeRegistered claims it's using a company to collect data on eligible unregistered voters, but the number of registered Coloradans who have contacted our office to complain shows there's a problem with their data.

"Confusing voters is a problem any time of the year," Staiert stated. "When it happens just before a major federal election, it's unacceptable."

If you have received one of these mailers here are the steps you can take:

  • Check your voter registration or register to vote at www.GoVoteColorado.com, or, text "CO" to "2Vote" (28683).

Contact BeRegistered at 614-502-6150 or info@beregistered2018.com to be removed from their list.
