Showers and scattered thunderstorms make a return to Kiowa County Wednesday as temperatures cool from recent days.

Look for high temperatures in the upper 70s to low 80s, with precipitation starting after 2:00 p.m. Rainfall across the county will generally be under 0.1 inches, however heavier amounts are possible where thunderstorms develop. Some storms could produce hail up to one inch in diameter and wind gusts to 60 miles per hour. Flash flooding is also possible.

Light winds earlier in the day are expected to be out of the north before shifting to the east in the afternoon.

The chance for showers and some storms is predicted to increase during the evening and overnight hours, with potential for rain in the 0.1-0.25 range. Showers could continue into Thursday.

Overnight, expect lows in the lower 50s, with mid-50s for western Kiowa County.

Thursday’s high temperatures are expected to drop another degree or two before a warm-up Friday and Saturday.

Currently, KiowaCountyPress.net Live Weatherfrom downtown Eads shows [weather:currwinddir] wind at [weather:currwindspeed] mph. The temperature is [weather:currtemp], with [weather:currrain] inches of rain so far today. Yesterday, 0.56 inches of rain was recorded, with a high of 94. The strongest wind gust since midnight was [weather:todaymaxwindspeed] mph, while the high temperature for the day so far was [weather:todayhightemp] at [weather:todayhightemptime].

Elsewhere in Colorado, a flash flood watch will be in effect from 11:00 a.m. Wednesday for Huerfano County and surrounding mountain areas. An upslope flow and moisture in the air could bring heavy rain to the area. There is potential for flooding, particularly over recent fire burn scars such as last year’s Spring Fire scar in Huerfano and Costilla counties.

Warmer temperatures and continued increases in snow melt have prompted a flood warning for southeast Conejos County through Thursday morning. A flood advisory remains in effect for the Gunnison river above Grand Junction, and for the Mancos River in Montezuma County for the week. A new advisory is in effect for the La Plata River in La Plata County.
