Southeast Colorado Fishing Conditions – November 1
Arkansas River Headwaters October in the upper Arkansas River valley was about as beautiful and benign as it can be, with above average temperatures and no significant weather. As a result, post-spawn browns have been dispersing back out into fall feeding habitat rather than congregating in the deep, slow winter water. With high temperatures for the first two weeks of November forecasted to be in the upper 60's, expect continued warm water and actively feeding fish. Midges continue to be a primary food source, though there are still good numbers of mature blue wing olive mayfly nymphs that have yet to hatch. Other good imitative approaches would be caddis larvae and golden stonefly nymphs. Attractor patterns continue to generate a good response, as do streamers swung from the shore or stripped from a boat. With 308 cfs flowing through Bighorn Sheep Canyon, conditions are excellent for wade fishing (courtesy of ArkAnglers). Arkansas Headwaters Recreation Area
Trinidad Lake The lake is currently at 735 surface acres with an elevation of 6184 ft. The surface temperature is in the high 50 degree range. Trout have really picked up from the shoreline in the last week. Fishermen have been using night crawlers, artificial flies, and PowerBait. Trout sizes have consistently stayed between 12 and 15 inches. Boaters are still catching trout. The walleye and perch fishing has stayed consistent. Boaters have found success catching fish trolling worm harnesses. Trinidad Lake State Park
