KIOWA COUNTY COMMITTEE ELECTION RESULTS

The Kiowa County Committee counted the received ballots for the 2024 COC election on Tuesday, December 10^,2024 at the regular meeting. Candidates were Hayden Uhland and Melissa (Missy) Jones. Hayden was the winner, and he will join the county committee in January 2025. Hayden is replacing Duff Haase who has served on the committee for at least the past 10 years. We thank Duff for her invaluable service and look forward to working with Hayden.

2024 NON-INSURED ASSISTANCE PROGRAM or NAP GRASS LOSS

The COC established a 50 percent normal production/50 percent loss of grass for grazing purposes for crop year 2024 NAP policies. The NAP policy on grass for grazing is a catastrophic policy which covers above a 50 percent loss of grazing, buy-up coverage is not available. Due to a 50 percent loss being established, Kiowa County will not be issuing any grass for grazing NAP payments for 2024.

KIOWA, PROWERS and BACA COUNTIES ELIGIBLE FOR 2024 LFP

DEADLINE TO APPLY: JANUARY 30, 2025

The office has had many producers contact us regarding the 2024 LFP program. If there are livestock producers in the county that have not applied for Livestock Forage Program or LFP for this year or are not familiar with the program, contact the office. Below is a brief description of the program, for more information please contact the office.

Due to an extended grazing period in Colorado, Kiowa, Prowers and Baca counties became eligible for a one-month payment on native grass for LFP or Livestock Forage Program for 2024. To be considered eligible for LFP a livestock producer must have risk and control in both:

Eligible livestock -

livestock that were or would have been grazing on native grass. Livestock located in feedlots are not eligible.
must have been owned, leased, purchased, entered a contract to purchase, or held by a contract grower during the 60 days prior to the beginning date of a qualifying date.
Have been maintained for commercial use.

Eligible producer –

Own, cash or share lease or be a contract grower of covered livestock during the 60 calendar days before the beginning date of a qualifying drought.
Provide pastureland for covered livestock, including cash-rented land that is physically located in a county affected by a qualifying drought.
Certify that they suffered a grazing loss because of a qualifying drought.
Timely file an acreage report for all grazing land for which grazing loss is being claimed.

NOTE: If a producer has grazing land that is physically in Kiowa, but another FSA office administers the land, the producer must apply for LFP in that administrative FSA office.
