If you’re a wheat farmer, you’re hopefully feeling good about finishing harvest, yields being up, and prices being slightly higher! It has truly been a pretty good year in Kiowa County and with talks of a monsoon season, it will hopefully keep on being good. Of course if we do get some much needed moisture, it can pose some problems when it comes to controlling weeds and volunteer wheat in our wheat stubble.
Southern Plains All Star Team Wraps up Season
The Southern Plains 10-year-old all-star team headed east to Lakin, Kansas, July 3 to take on the Southwest Kansas all stars. On a hot evening the Southern Plains bats were even hotter. Bryson Hyle bounced one over the fence along with 3 other hits. Case Nelson had 3 hits along with Devin Eaton and Zach Dickey. Poncho Saenz and Truman King collected 2 hits on the ball game. Defensively the SP All Stars made some amazing plays by Stockton Mitchek, Case Nelson, and Damion Molina.
Death Notice - Donald L. Phillips

Mr. Phillips passed away unexpectedly at his home in Eads Sunday.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 13th at the Praise Community Church in Eads.
Visitation will be held from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 12th at Praise Community Church.
Body Recovered at Lake Pueblo
Divers searching for a missing fisherman discovered a body in Lake Pueblo Monday afternoon.
The remains were immediately turned over to Pueblo County Coroner Brian Cotter for identification and determination of a cause of death.
The search was initiated early Sunday by Colorado Parks and Wildlife staff after witnesses reported seeing a man enter the water while he was fishing from the north shore in the State Wildlife Area, west of Lake Pueblo State Park.

Search Underway for Missing Man at Lake Pueblo
Emergency responders from Pueblo-area agencies are searching Lake Pueblo Sunday for a man who went missing while fishing from the north shore in the State Wildlife Area.
Witnesses called 9-1-1 early Sunday morning after seeing a 65-year-old Pueblo West man enter the water to retrieve his fishing rod.
The emergency call was made when the man didn't return to shore.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife officers launched a search using low-powered sonar, and called in the Pueblo County Sheriff's Department dive team to assist in the search for the man, who has not been identified.
