A grass fire Sunday near the Kiowa County road and bridge maintenance shop northwest of Eads burned as much as five acres of grass and damaged equipment, vehicles and a Colorado Department of Transportation message board at the nearby CDOT maintenance yard.

Spring in Colorado is often marked by rapidly changing weather, and the coming days are a prime example.
Upper 60s are expected Wednesday afternoon, along with south winds gusting to 30 miles-per-hour. Overnight, look for a low in the low 40s, and continuing strong wind gusts.

We Need a Fire District. This is a topic that has been going around Kiowa County in recent days. This discussion is not new and has taken place for several years. It has come to the front burner again because of the drought and extreme fire danger along with the devastating wildfires not only in Colorado but to our neighbors to the south and southeast in Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas. Not only pasture and cropland lost, but human and animal as well.

The hope for moisture may be rewarded this week after several days of unseasonably-warm temperatures, though some uncertainty remains.
Wednesday will see a high in the upper 60s, with fire danger just below alerting levels and wind out of the south at ten to 20 miles-per-hour. The temperature will drop to the low 40s overnight, and winds could gust at high as 30 mph before decreasing after midnight.

Spring break is over and now we're back to school for about 8 weeks and it will all be over for another year. Can't believe how fast this year has gone by.
Dick and I and my sister, Jerene DeBono went to Dodge City on Saturday. We did a little gambling and then met our son Mark, to get our grandson Kyle, who had been with his folks over Spring break. Our granddaughter Breeanna, who is on Spring break this week, decided to come home with us. We'll meet her dad next weekend so she can return home. The house is no longer quiet!
