Every year, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recognize August as National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM). This effort becomes of great importance especially in light of the increasing number of imported cases of measles disease in the United States. From January 1, 2017 through June 17, 2017, the CDC reports that 108 people in 11 states have already been infected with measles. This number is already 35% higher than in all of 2016.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation is seeking the public’s assistance in helping to identify the person or people responsible for the murder of a Bent county woman dating back to 1997.
The body of Deborah Reid, 34, was discovered under a bridge approximately 16 miles east of Walsenburg August 14, 1997. Though the cause of Reid’s death could not be determined, investigators believe she was murdered.
Reid was reported missing by her sister and ex-husband when she did not arrive at her job at the Bent County Corrections Facility on August 4, 1997.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife will celebrate Colorado Day, Monday, August 7 by offering free entrance at all 41 state parks. Free entrance at the state parks is an annual Colorado Day tradition. Although the state celebrated its 141 birthday August 1, state parks are only offering free entrance on August 7.
Linda Kay Owen
August 1, 1950- July 22, 2017
Memorial Services are pending for longtime Lamar resident Linda Kay Owen.
Linda was born on August 1, 1950 at Goodland, Kansas to Marion Edward and Vera May (Butts) Hoss and passed away at her home in Lamar on July 22, 2017. She was 66.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
William “Bill” D. Patton
September 30, 1930 – July 30, 2017
William D. “Bill” Patton was born to Deloss and Viola Dillon Patton on September 30, 1930.
Bill graduated from High School in Ordway, Colorado before joining the United States Air Force. After serving his country, Bill returned home and met and married Mary Pepper. Three boys were born to this union, Clifford, Pepper and Hugh.
