Hot and Dry Weather Continues this Week

Continued hot and mostly dry conditions will continue across most of Colorado to start the work week, though a few showers may be possible for the eastern half of the state.

Eastern Colorado

Temperatures will mainly be in the mid-80s for eastern Colorado Sunday. A cold front will be moving through the eastern part of the state from late morning through the early afternoon. Expect a few afternoon and evening storms over the higher elevations producing light to moderate rain and a potential for wind gusts to 40 miles per hour.

CSU Extension Hosting Corn Field Day August 30

Colorado State University (CSU) Extension and the Colorado Corn Administrative Committee (CCAC) are inviting corn farmers and others interested to attend the upcoming Corn Field Day near Holyoke.

The event is set for 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 30, taking place about 10 miles south of Holyoke on U.S. 385. (From U.S. 385, go west on County Road 2 -- also listed as County Road 60 -- for 2 1/4 miles, and then turn south on the trail at that location.)

Home Country

It was Thursday again. Mabel Adams asked at the desk to be sure.

“Thursday all day, Mabel,” the girl said. “Don’t forget to get your hair done today. Two o’clock … right?”

“Right,” Mabel said, locking the time away in her mind. “Two o’clock. On Thursday.”

She took her purple walker and went half a block to the counter at the drug store.

That nice Williams girl came over with a smile and a menu.

“Tuna on toast, Mrs. Adams?”

“Uh, sure. I like that.”

“Hot tea?”

“Yes please.”
