The “Fifty Shades” franchise is commercially successful but critically despised. I’ve heard all manner of nasty things said about the books, and 2015’s “Fifty Shades of Grey” tied for Worst Picture at the Razzies. “Fifty Shades Darker” is no redeemer, I assure you. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say the series likes the abuse it takes from people with good taste.

• . The Trek is a four-day hike through the pristine mountains and farm country to commemorate the gold rush in New Zealand.

P.D. Edwards of Fowler, Kansas, celebrated his 100th birthday February 4, 2017, in Fowler. He was joined by his son, Bruce and wife Alice Edwards of Shawnee, Kansas, and daughter, Konda and husband Fred Hollandsworth of Meade, Kansas, grandson Brian Hollandsworth of Olatha, Kansas, along with many other family members and friends helped him celebrate.
