A lynx that was spotted walking across a ski slope two weeks ago at the Purgatory Ski Resort in southwest Colorado was found dead at the area Sunday. 

Purgatory ski patrol members found the animal on a ski slope on the west side of the resort in the Chairlift 8 area. Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) has retrieved the carcass and it will be sent to the agency’s lab in Fort Collins for a necropsy – the animal equivalent of an autopsy.

A video of the animal walking slowly across a ski run was viewed nearly a million times on social media.

Residents and visitors are being asked to avoid the area around Cheyenne Mountain State Park as strong winds have downed power lines, shifted dirt and brush, and overturned at least one camper.

Power lines were blown down in front of the park entrance, and while fire and utility crews are on scene, entry to the park is unsafe.

Event Takes Place in Biloxi, May 7-11

The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) will accept applications from Veterans interested in competing in the 2017 National Veterans Golden Age Games beginning February 1. Veterans ages 55 and older and enrolled in VA health care may complete applications online at www.veteransgoldenagegames.va.gov. Applications will be accepted through March 1.

Welcome to 2017.  Don't know where 2016 went, but it surely seemed to fly by fast.  Maybe it's because I'm getting old and slow! The weather has been really cold lately.  I hope most of you survived and didn't have frozen pipes.  We weren't so lucky at the Community Hall, and we're still waiting on a plumber to come fix the broken pipes. 

Hopefully this week we will get everything taken care of.

We have now entered the second month of the wrestling season with the Eagles jump starting 2017 with a nice showing in Lamar.  We had three placers and scored 59 points, putting us in 13^th place out of 19 teams.  Not too shabby for only 4 wrestlers on the team.

Terry and Areta Laird of Eads are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Shalyn Lea Laird, to Keith Edward Smith, son of Richard and Sharma Smith of Greeley.

After a week of mostly sub-freezing temperatures, the coming week will be much warmer – but it may not last.

Sunday’s predicted high in the mid-40s marks the first time the temperature has been above freezing since last Tuesday. The overnight low will fall to the lower 20s.

An unseasonably warm Monday is expected to have a high approaching 60 before falling to the upper 20s overnight.

Temperatures gradually fall off Tuesday and Wednesday as the high reaches the low 50s and overnight lows dip to the low 20s.
