With monsoon moisture continuing to enter the area, afternoon and evening thunderstorms will be a possibility throughout the week.

High temperatures will be in the mid- to upper 90s Sunday through Wednesday before falling to the low 90s Thursday, and further dropping to the upper 80s Friday and Saturday.

Overnight lows will be in the mid-60s for Kiowa County.

While the chances of storms are at the lower end of the scale, be prepared for heavy rains that could lead to flash flooding.

You are cordially invited to the 25th annual Limon Heritage Festival on Saturday, August 6th in the downtown Railroad Park, Depot, Exhibit Building, and Town Hall. 68 Colorado Traffic Fatalities in 2015 Involved Distracted Drivers

The first step in overcoming any bad habit is admitting you have one. And data suggests Coloradans do in fact have a dangerous habit — distracted driving. Last year in Colorado, 15,574 crashes and 68 traffic fatalities involved distracted drivers. Aiming to reduce distraction on Colorado roadways, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) is unveiling a new public safety video and campaign, calling distracted driving exactly what it is — a Killer Habit.

The evening was one of those that come back to you time after time, year after long year. It comes back and whispers of how good life can be when you’re well fed, enjoying life, and a good friend shares the front porch with you on a summer’s evening.

It was that way with Doc and Steve the other night. Doc thought he might have to do a scientific paper on the soporific effects of ice tea, fried chicken, and corn on the cob. As long as it didn’t take any effort.

Crop Reports: Almost all winter wheat harvested, but progress remain slightly behind 5 year average. The spring wheat crop rated mostly good to fair. Corn silked at 60 % conditions good to excellent.

Parents planning to have their preschool-aged children attend Eads Elementary School preschool program this fall will need to submit information from a doctor-administered physical examination. An examination should be scheduled as soon as possible.

Preschool registration requires a physical form completed by a doctor, copy of the child’s birth certificate, and a copy of the child’s immunization records.

Eads School registration is set for Tuesday, August 2, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Eads High School Multi-purpose Room.

Setup is underway for Saturday Evening’s Maine Street Bash in Eads.

Maine Street is blocked between 13^th and 14^th Streets for the remainder of the day as volunteers work to set up a portable stage, tables and other amenities. Gates will open at 4:00 p.m., and event will be fully underway by 5:00 p.m.

We wish to thank the following people for coming to our aid when lightning struck our pasture on July 17, north of Chivington, burning not our our land, but other grassland, too.

Rural Fire Departments from Eads, Bent County, Kit Carson, Cheyenne Wells, Sheridan Lake, Prowers County, and the City of Lamar. Also Kiowa County Employees, our families, friends and neighbors, Jerry Weber Water, Scherler Farms and Tallman farms for bring truck loads of water.

We are thankful that no structures or cattle were burned and no injuries.

Moisture continues to flow in the area, allowing for chances of afternoon and evening thunderstorms to develop over the area, which will continue into the middle of the week.

Saturday’s high temperature will be in the lower 90s before a warm up to the mid-90s lasting through Wednesday. Lower 90s will return Thursday before mid-80s are expected to arrive Friday. Overnight temperatures will be in the low to mid-60s over the weekend and throughout the week.
