Crop Reports: Almost all winter wheat harvested, but progress remain slightly behind 5 year average. The spring wheat crop rated mostly good to fair. Corn silked at 60 % conditions good to excellent.

A $5 million exploratory drilling program in four eastern Colorado counties was outlined bu Union Pacific Resources Corp  on  July 19 Four dozen well are to be drilled in next 15 months in Kiowa, Kit Carson, Cheyenne & Lincoln counties.

Biggest, fastest bike groups come through Kiowa County. From Holland 12, schedule to complete the 4000 plus trip in 32 days. Second fastest group plan to make it in 54 days. The largest group was hosted by Ivan Brenton ,a hamburger supper.

Reflections: Notes from the Editors Pad: this past week has kept the editor close to the grind stone, & particularly the linotype-the complicated hunk of machinery that sets type for each issue of the press. More of  this past week will have ‘the old man’ eliminating the greasy kid stuff.
