“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:9
The scripture above is one from our first day of Vacation Bible School at Trinity Lutheran Church in Kit Carson. Sheridan Lake Bible Church hosted a great Bible School the first week of June and Praise Community Church in Eads is hosting VBS the third week pf June.
Our lands around Eastern Colorado have been so blessed with more rain than usual. The prairies are lush green. On the other hand, some farmers are really getting anxious to plant seeds for their row crops and even gardens.
Remember last week when many of us were so eager to hear Jaime Crocket in concert? Friday, late in the afternoon, it was called off or postponed as we were not sure when or if the rain would begin. The next day, we heard Jaimie did treat those who came to the Maine Street Bash at the Horseshoe Park on Maine Street just north of the railroad tracks. This week, June 20, people, can take their chairs, or sit on the grass or brick wall, to hear the lovely Breanna Echols of Kit Carson sing. She is an accomplished vocalist and musician who traveled all her young life with her family as gospel singers. She and her husband now live in Kit Carson.
We appreciated reading an interesting article about our high school graduates in the county and their career plans. It is gratifying to read or learn of the accomplishments of some of our graduates. I read that Dr. Ky Davis, formerly of Eads, has received a high honor from the state, “Distinguished Coloradoan” for his “exceptional contributions in his profession” as a pharmacist. He was also given the title of “Pharmacists of the Year” in 2018. He is known and appreciated for his advocacy in rural pharmacies and medicine. He is a graduate of Eads high school, and the son of Dr. Tom and Cathy Davis of Eads.
I read about another Eads graduate from 1995, LeRoy Rittgers of Pueblo, who has worked for the Pueblo Board of Water Works for many years. LeRoy recently won another award for his outstanding work with people, especially in the Pueblo area. This is the sixth year that he has won this award for his outstanding work and service for financing and servicing waterworks equipment. He and his wife, the former Shanna Wyckoff of Arlington, have three sons.
Father’s Day was June 15. Those who made reservations were treated to a prime rib dinner in Trista Tuttle’s Country Elegance shop on Maine Street in Eads. Families could eat inside of have carry out meals of tasty creations. As on many occasions, Trista has offered “crafts day” by reservation and a fee. What fun it must be for children to make wonderful gifts for their loved ones. Families can learn more about these opportunities by stopping in for a cool drink and snack at Clair Lane’s delightful shop weekdays in the mornings until about 1:00 p.m.
How exciting for Reece Barnett, who will be a freshman at Eads High School in August. He will be flying to San Diego, California, where he will be competing in the world’s largest golf tournament for teens.
Recently, Justin Lenox and his wife, Kaylee, sponsored Eads Future Farmers of America members to the State FFA conference on the Colorado State University - Pueblo campus this month.
Rich and Diane O’Brian had the pleasure of having all five of their children and spouses visit them on a recent weekend. They helped their parents around their property and yard while they stayed at the Cobblestone Inn. Sunday, they went to Cheyenne Wells with their parents where Rich often preaches. Rich and Dianne met years ago while on a trip in Israel. She was from Denver and Rick from Alabama. They have lived in 22 different communities and cities over the last 50 years, and are now happy to live in the small town of Eads. Soon you will see that their home and fence on Kerr Street be painted a new color.
We are trying to revive the custom of friends and relatives to come to the Weisbrod dining room Thursday mornings as they did for many years until COVID. Mark your calendar for Thursday, June 26, at about 9:14 a.m. The Coffee Club will also feature a fashion show of people or residents wearing garments from the Salvation Army store. Brenda Leon, our activity director, has a lot of fun ideas for us to enjoy. The next day, we are looking forward to hearing her husband, Johnny Leon, sing for us. We like him a lot. John and Brenda are from Tribune, Kansas. He tells me there is a nice new waitress from Tribune at JJ’s Restaurant in Eads.
