Ag stats: May 2022 USDA mountain states region grain stocks highlights

ARIZONA

Off-farm corn stocks in Arizona on June 1, 2022 were 2.74 million bushels, up 46 percent from June 1, 2021, according to the June 1 Agricultural Survey and June Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. Off-farm barley stocks totaled 20,000 bushels, down 29 from last year. Off-farm all wheat stocks in Arizona on June 1, 2022 were 2.26 million bushels, up 1 percent from last year. Other Arizona grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations.

COLORADO

All corn stocks in Colorado on June 1, 2022 were 33.18 million bushels, down less than one-half percent from June 1, 2021, according to the June 1 Agricultural Survey and June Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. All corn stocks stored on farms amounted to 16.00 million bushels, down 6 percent from a year ago. All corn stored off farms amounted to 17.18 million bushels, up 6 percent from a year ago. Off-farm sorghum stocks were 1.43 million bushels, down 25 percent from last year. Off-farm oat stocks in Colorado were estimated at 22,000 bushels, down 51 percent from last year. Off-farm barley stocks totaled 4.40 million bushels, up 52 percent from last year.

All wheat stocks in Colorado on June 1, 2022 were 17.75 million bushels, down 4 percent from June 1, 2021. All wheat stocks stored on farms amounted to 1.60 million bushels, down 61 percent from a year ago. All wheat stored off farms amounted to 16.15 million bushels, up 12 percent from a year ago. Other Colorado grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations.

MONTANA

All oat stocks in Montana on June 1, 2022 were 183,000 bushels, down 61 percent from June 1, 2021, according to the June 1 Agricultural Survey and June Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. Oats stored on-farm were down 62 percent from last year to a record low 170,000 bushels. Off-farm oat stocks were 13,000 bushels, down 48 percent from a year ago. Montana barley stocks in all positions on June 1, 2022 were 7.53 million bushels, down 58 percent from a year ago. Barley stored on farms totaled 3.00 million bushels, down 67 percent from last year. Off- farm barley stocks were down 50 percent from a year ago to 4.53 million bushels.

All wheat stocks in Montana on June 1, 2022 were 34.80 million bushels, down 38 percent from June 1, 2021. All wheat stocks stored on farms amounted to 18.00 million bushels, down 45 percent from a year ago. All wheat stored off farms amounted to 16.80 million bushels, down 28 percent from a year ago. Durum wheat stocks on June 1, 2022 were 5.04 million bushels, down 24 percent from last year. Durum wheat stored on farms amounted to 3.70 million bushels and Durum wheat stored off farms amounted to 1.34 million bushels. Other Montana grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations.

NEW MEXICO

New Mexico grain stocks on June 1, 2022 were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations.

UTAH

Off-farm oat stocks in Utah on June 1, 2022 were 11,000 bushels, down 8 percent from June 1, 2021, according to the June 1 Agricultural Survey and June Grain Stocks Report conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA. Off-farm barley stocks totaled 103,000 bushels. Off-farm all wheat stocks in Utah on June 1, 2022 were 3.41 million bushels, down 8 percent from last year. Other Utah grain stocks were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations.

WYOMING

Wyoming grain stocks on June 1, 2022 were not published separately to avoid disclosing data for individual operations.

UNITED STATES

Corn stocks in all positions on June 1, 2022 totaled 4.35 billion bushels, up 6 percent from June 1, 2021. Of the total stocks, 2.12 billion bushels are stored on farms, up 22 percent from a year earlier. Off-farm stocks, at 2.23 billion bushels, are down 6 percent from a year ago. The March - May 2022 indicated disappearance is 3.41 billion bushels, compared with 3.58 billion bushels during the same period last year.

Grain sorghum stored in all positions on June 1, 2022 totaled 121 million bushels, up 195 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks, at

3.53 million bushels, are up 72 percent from last year. Off-farm stocks, at 117 million bushels, are up 202 percent from June 1, 2021. The March - May 2022 indicated disappearance from all positions is 86.2 million bushels, down 10 percent from the same period last year.

Old crop oats stored in all positions on June 1, 2022 totaled 32.6 million bushels, 14 percent below the stocks on June 1, 2021. Of the total stocks on hand, 9.89 million bushels are stored on farms, 21 percent below a year ago. Off-farm stocks totaled 22.7 million bushels, 11 percent below the previous year. Indicated disappearance during March - May 2022 totaled 10.4 million bushels, 23 percent below the same period a year ago.

Old crop barley stocks in all positions on June 1, 2022 totaled 42.2 million bushels, down 41 percent from June 1, 2021. On-farm stocks are estimated at 9.76 million bushels, 54 percent below a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 32.4 million bushels, are 35 percent below June 1, 2021. The March - May 2022 indicated disappearance is 30.4 million bushels, 38 percent below the same period a year earlier.

Old crop all wheat stored in all positions on June 1, 2022 totaled 660 million bushels, down 22 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks are estimated at 93.0 million bushels, down 34 percent from last year. Off-farm stocks, at 567 million bushels, are down 19 percent from a year ago. The March - May 2022 indicated disappearance is 364 million bushels, down 22 percent from the same period a year earlier.

Old crop Durum wheat stocks in all positions on June 1, 2022 totaled 21.2 million bushels, down 22 percent from a year ago. On-farm stocks, at 9.29 million bushels, are down 31 percent from June 1, 2021. Off-farm stocks totaled 11.9 million bushels, down 14 percent from a year ago. The March - May 2022 indicated disappearance of 9.11 million bushels is down 39 percent from the same period a year earlier.

Soybeans stored in all positions on June 1, 2022 totaled 971 million bushels, up 26 percent from June 1, 2021. On-farm stocks totaled 331 million bushels, up 51 percent from a year ago. Off-farm stocks, at 640 million bushels, are up 17 percent from a year ago. Indicated disappearance for the March - May 2022 quarter totaled 960 million bushels, up 21 percent from the same period a year earlier.

Pulse crops stored in all positions on June 1, 2022 and the change from June 1, 2021 are: dry edible peas, 3.14 million cwt, down 4 percent; lentils, 1.05 million cwt, down 36 percent; all chickpeas, 1.99 million cwt, down 11 percent; small chickpeas, 401 thousand cwt, down 35 percent; and large chickpeas, 1.59 million cwt, down 1 percent. Small chickpeas are defined as peas that will pass through a 20/64 inch round hole screen. Large chickpeas are defined as larger than 20/64 inches.
