Week of February 28-March 5:

Plainview School has had a busy and profitable week, beginning with the regional science fair in Lamar February 28.

Eleven students made the trek to the Southeast Regional Science Fair, and what a fun and interesting day they had. Four out of the 11 qualified for CSEF (state) in Fort Collins from April 11-13 at the CSU Lory Student Center Ballroom: Destiny Cornelius, Ky Harkness, Alexa and Gael Enriquez-Munoz.

Those placing at Regionals were as follows:

  • JH Engineering - 1st: Alexa and Gael Enriquez-Munoz
  • JH Physics - 2nd: Kate and Jaxson
  • HS Combined - Reserve. Champion: Destiny Cornelius
  • 1st: Ky Harkness
  • 2nd: Alexis Schneider and Hailey Cornelius
  • 3rd: Elijah Harkness

Plainview was well represented, and the students spoke well to the judges and shared their knowledge of their projects.

Also February 28, the kindergarten and first grade students celebrated 100 days of school. Colton brought Legos and wore a shirt that contained 100 safety pins, Owen brought paper clips, Caleb brought beans, and Tiera brought pop tabs.

Monday and Tuesday began a week-long celebration of Dr. Seuss. Dress-up days included Monday - Crazy Hat and Crazy Sock Day and Tuesday - Moustache Day. For the end of the week, Wednesday – Preschoolers had PJ Day while the others will have Wacky Wednesday (or, as Mrs. Spencer calls it, “Fashion Disaster” Day), and Thursday - PJ Day.

Wednesday Read to Me occurred from 12:30 to about 1:30. Instead of having guest readers, the elementary was reading to each other first thing in the morning after the pledge was said and the preschoolers were done with breakfast.

Monday the Kinders and first graders read to the rest of the elementary classes. Tuesday, it was the second graders’ turn. Wednesday, the third graders read, and the week ended with the fourth graders.

This week Plainview School will be on spring vacation.
