A former member of the Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office was arrested for alleged incidents of sexual assault occurring earlier this year and in the late 1990s.

Following an extensive investigation, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation (CBI) obtained an arrest warrant in Huerfano District Court for former Huerfano County Sheriff's Captain Kevin Vallejos for Sexual Assault of a Child (from 1998) and Attempted Sexual Assault allegedly occurring earlier in 2016. 

Vallejos was arrested without incident at his home in Walsenburg by CBI agents, the Colorado State Patrol and the Walsenburg Police Department August 24.

Vallejos was transported to the Pueblo County, and later bonded.  

The 16th Judicial District Attorney's Office and the Colorado Attorney General's Office were appointed as special prosecutors by the 3rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

The charges against the defendant in this case are merely accusations; Vallejos is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
