- Placing third at the regional meet in McClave, the Plainview Knowledge Bowl team qualified for the state meet. Eads also qualified after going head to head with Plainview in the final round, ending with two points separating the two teams.
25 Years Ago - April 21, 2000
- A grass fire that started in Crowley County spread to southwest Kiowa County, threatening homes and other property. It consumed and estimated 15,000 acres of CRP, stubble, and grassland.
40 Years Ago - April 19, 1985
- The United States Postal Service is conducting studies to determine future post office space needs in Arlington. Editors note: Another case of the government’s left hand doesn’t know what right hand is doing. Last week they had announced possible closing of the Arlington post office.
50 Years Ago - April 18, 1975
- A building being built in Lamar will be moved to Brandon to serve as the Post Office. The Post Office presently located in the old hotel.
- Recent winds have caused heavy damage to wheat fields in Kiowa County. A field east of Black Lake suffered a soil loss of approximately 15 tons per acre in one wind storm.
75 Years Ago - April 21, 1950
- The Saturday afternoon trading custom is vanishing. The bank closes at noon, and the post office will soon follow suit.
100 Years Ago - 1925
- Chivington School Notes: Such a fine day after long reign of winds so all the junior high and high school pupils, with their teachers, hiked from their school room to Sand Creek. The lower grades followed suit on Friday.
