- USDA Update Rod Johnson: The Interest rates for commodity loans disbursed in Sept. is 4.5%, down .125% from the August rate. Wheat planting is progressing throughout the county. Moisture conditions are quite variable.
- Area Schools: Plainview High School traveled to Woodlin battle it out against Prairie. When the buzzer ran out, it was the Hawks who were ahead 6-16. Eads Volleyball has best start in years. Eads won the season opener in Stratton. In the Limon Tournament they manage to get victories over Hi-Plains, Hugo, Peyton, and Elbert. They lost to Limon in the tournament championship match. Treva Richardson was named the tournament’s most valuable player. Eads football team beat Stratton 17-7; First time since the mid 1980’s.

- Ralph Berry of Eads placed high at last weekend’s Kansas State Rodeo. He placed second in a go round and forth in overall average in team roping.
- The official National Weather Service rain gauge south of Eads reported 4.22 inches of rainfall last month
- A criminal suit filed by the Town of Eads against local rancher has been dismissed. In a ruling handed down by District Judge, cited an Eads police officer’s lack of certification as the basis for dismissal.
- Te Kiowa Albright Hall’s End-of-summer supper will take place September 7. Everyone in the area invited to attend the games, which will begin at 5 pm.
- The annual Jamboree performances will be held Thurs. Sept 12 and Sat. Sept. 14 at 7:30 pm. About 85 county residents have again put together a very entertaining performance for your pleasure.

- The 197 Kiowa County Free Fair and Rodeo will be bigger and better than ever before according to fair board chairman Wayne McKnight, who said attendance “should be as good or better than any year before”.
- Kit Carson Days are scheduled for Sept 2-4, this year featuring some new events and additional prizes. Two one-act melodramas will be among the headlined events of this celebration sponsored by the Kit Carson community Chamber of Commerce.
- Janette Louise Kochis, formerly of Eads and of Matheson, has been selected for inclusion in the 1976 edition of Outstanding Young Women of America. Kochis is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Carl Peterson and a 1966 graduate of Eads High School.
- A Denver man wanted on charges in Jefferson County was arrested south of Kit Carson last Tuesday after a chase, which started in Cheyenne Wells and attained speeds up to 100 MPH.
- Mark Forsyth, Donald Oswald, and Steve Parker were nominated for the Ninth Annual High School Honors Institutes in Engineering by their science teachers on the basis of their outstanding records in the humanities, science, and mathematics.

September 2, 1966
- Frank Bush, rural mail carrier at Brandon, retired Wednesday after 31 years of continuous service –discounting an occasional fishing or hunting trip.
- A report this week indicated that the No. 1 Wear 4 well in the Brandon Field is producing better than first anticipated.
- A estimated $2800 in purse money and entry fees will be at stake for competing cowboys Friday and Saturday afternoons, September 9-10, during the annual Kiowa County Free Fair and Rodeo at Eads

August 29, 1941
- Word received in Eads that Kiowa County won second place in the dry land division at Colorado State Fair. In addition to that honor, there are about 28 ribbons attached to individual exhibits in the booth.

The Third Annual Kiowa County Fair has been changed from Thursday, September 21, to Thursday September 14 because the Pueblo State Fair, which will be held September 1-23. This will mean for our people to get busy if we will have the successful fair that we should have
