March 28, 1991

A lighting sparked fire charred 30 acres at the Jesse James Ranch. Volunteers from both Cheyenne and Kiowa counties responded to the fire, located near the county line.

March 19, 1976

Peoples Natural Gas has filed a schedule of proposed new rated with the Public Utilities Commission in Denver, and unless the PUC suspends the application and calls for a hearing, the higher rates will take place April1.

100 years

March 24, 1916

Destructive prairie fires raged across this county and into western Kansas reducing thousands of acres to black stubble. Before the fire could be check it was 30 miles wide and burned a distance of 160 miles.
