Storm chances return to Kiowa County Wednesday ahead of a breezy, 86-degree Thursday
Showers and thunderstorms return to Kiowa County on Wednesday, opening a stretch of daily storm chances that runs through the end of the week while afternoon highs climb from the low 80s to the mid-80s. The National Weather Service in Pueblo puts the rain chance near Eads at 30 percent Wednesday, rising to 50 percent Wednesday night.
Wednesday starts mostly cloudy and gradually turns sunny, with a high near 82. South-southeast winds of 5 to 10 mph increase to 10 to 15 mph in the afternoon. Showers and thunderstorms are most likely after 5 p.m., with rainfall amounts under a tenth of an inch outside of thunderstorms. The low Wednesday night is around 60.
"Multiple waves of showers and thunderstorms expected Wednesday through Friday," Eric Petersen, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Pueblo, wrote in Tuesday's Area Forecast Discussion. Petersen noted that a weak surface trough running roughly from Trinidad to Eads may help focus Wednesday afternoon storms away from the higher terrain.
Flood watch stays in the mountains; no fire weather warnings on the plains
The only headline hazard in the Pueblo forecast area is a flood watch in effect from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday evening for the eastern San Juan Mountains, well west of Kiowa County. No watches, warnings or advisories are in effect for the Eads area, and no red flag warnings have been issued for the southeast plains.
The wetter pattern also keeps fire weather concerns limited through midweek, though gusty south winds Thursday afternoon are worth watching in any area that stays dry.

Sunday cools further, with a high near 73, north winds around 10 mph and a 30 percent chance of showers, with thunderstorms also possible after noon. Forecasters noted that guidance for Sunday and Monday has been inconsistent, with some models drying the region out and others keeping storm chances going.
