‘So many ways hydrogen can go wrong’: Hub announcements viewed with caution

(Colorado Newsline) The Friday announcement that seven projects had been selected to receive $7 billion in seed money to kickstart the production of clean hydrogen across the country was billed by President Joe Biden’s administration as a major step toward slashing carbon emissions, creating thousands of domestic jobs and positioning the U.S. as a clean energy leader.

(The Center Square) – The Biden administration announced $7 billion in funding Friday to launch its vision for a hydrogen-fueled future. The money augments $40 billion in private investment to build seven hydrogen hubs across the nation that will decarbonize transportation and industrial manufacturing, slashing 25 million metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions each year.

The amount equates to removing approximately 5.5 million gasoline-powered vehicles from the road, or just under 2 percent of the estimated 286 million operational cars in the United States.
