Several couples in our community have been celebrating that they have been married 50 or more years. Some whom I have visited with are Bob and Renee Woods –63 years, Orville and Rita Mousel-----, Dave and Diane Harrison—55 years and Louis and Lauretta Brown—50 years. We do congratulate them and many other couples who have had lasing marriages.
5K Color Dash to Benefit Prairie Pines Assisted Living Center
In the first of what is expected to be annual, colorful event, the Maine Street 5K Color Dash has been scheduled for July 29 in Eads. Proceeds from the event will benefit Prairie Pines Assisted Living Center.
Registration is open now. The $25 entry fee includes lunch, and prizes will be awarded to the fastest runner in each division and the most originally-dressed runner. Additional drawings for prizes are also planned.

La Junta Man Named to Investment Firm’s Circle of Champions
La Junta businessman Kirby A. Shineman has qualified for the Waddell & Reed Circle of Champions conference for the 11th time.
Circle of Champions members are selected based on a review of investment, insurance and financial planning sales generated by each advisor. Five hundred of Waddell & Reed’s 1,800-member network across the nation qualified this year.
John Martin Reservoir, Las Animas Library Inspire Kids to Go, Learn of the Outdoors
To achieve its summer reading program goal to “build a better world,” the Las Animas-Bent County Library District is teaming with John Martin Reservoir State Park to reward avid readers with free overnight camping trips in the park.
Paula Shane, library district director, said the opportunity to win gift certificates for six one-night camping stays in the park has given extra motivation to the 26 children in program to read.
