Governor Proclaims May 6 “Wildfire Preparedness Day”

Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper has officially proclaimed Saturday, May 6, as “Wildfire Preparedness Day” in Colorado as communities across the state come together to prepare for wildfires and take actions to reduce their wildfire risk. The proclamation, which dedicates a day to engage communities in focusing on activities that create awareness, education and action to reduce potential deaths and property losses through their preparedness efforts, coincides with the 2017 National Wildfire Community Preparedness Day.

Eleanor Jones

(April 1, 1923 - May 2, 2017)

Antonia Eleanor Jones was born April 1, 1923, to immigrants Frank and Antonia Bratkovic in Kansas City, Kansas. She grew up in the Slovenian/Croatian community of Strawberry Hill and always loved the ethnic foods such as Kielbasa (sausage) and Povatica (a walnut bread), which her sister Marge still makes every year. She had two older brothers, Frank and Carl, both deceased, and a younger sister Margaret (Marge) who resides in Littleton, Colorado.
