"You children must obey your parents, for it pleases the Lord” Philippians 3:20

The Weisbrod Hospital Auxiliary met for their monthly luncheon meeting. They were pleased to hear some of the plans that Jaton (King) Wallace has planned in her new role as Activity Director. She has been serving as a Registered Nurse for several years, and has such a heart for the residents to be more active. Our other guests were the Interim CEO, Jeanette Filpi, who informed us about some new improvements at the facility for the Extended Care Unit. She congratulated Rachel (Brown) Bletzacker, the Director of Nursing, who recently received her certification to be a Family Nurse Practitioner, which she may be able to practice in the future. Another perk that the employees like is a lunch bar Monday through Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for $5. We welcome new members to join us at our next meeting August 9 at 11:00 a.m.

The next day, after my chiropractor appointment with Dr. Sean Oquist in the annex building, I went to the hospital for a tour to see some of the changes. It was a pleasure to see the new silver salad bar equipment and dining nook. Marla Guinn Darnell, the Dietary Director, invited me to have a lunch that she filled in a box for me to carry out. They even serve a soup with the lunch, and have little Styrofoam covered dishes. What class! Marla said people can buy a $50 food ticket for 10 meals. If a person from the public wants to buy a meal, they need to call at least an hour before the meal.

Members of the Victims Assistant-Law Enforcement board met at the Town of Eads Hall. We continued our quarterly discussion with Sheriff’s Deputy Kayla Murdock on what could be done to inform students and parents about some of the challenges and dangers in our community, and how all people need to be informed about these possible dangers to our precious children. I left the meeting feeling rather sick with concern for parents and families and the effects of social media. There is hope because there is an answer.

At the All-School Reunion committee meeting, Lori Beth (Weirich) Elder and Megan Herran  updated us on progress in planning for the exciting weekend of September 9-10 during the county fair. Brenda (Addington) Stoker reported for the silent auction committee. Steve Shotton is bringing items from Oklahoma, Ken Baker is collecting gifts from Pueblo, and Shannon (Barlow) Ellenberger and others are collecting exciting donations to help grow our scholarship fund. Follow @eadseaglereunion on Facebook to see announcements. It is free, with lots of places and times to visit and reconnect with friends. There are other great plans which I will try to keep readers posted on.

The Maine Street Bash is only a week and a half away, Saturday July 30. It is free to attend 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. People can come and go to take part in games, corn hole, fun KidZone activities, explore the museum, attend free movies, view the quilt show and to listen to the fabulous music all day and into the night while you munch on good foods from the vendors.

Thank you to Jami Jensen for printing in both local newspapers a list of the many volunteers who contributed to make the Independence Day kids parade, and activities afterward, such an outstanding event. One young mother who grew up in a large city told me today that, “Everyday, I am just so grateful to live in Eads. I love it here.” This maybe another reason why so many people like Eads: because people try to work together.

Saturday morning was so fun to go to Dusty Eikenberg’s farmers market at the roadside park in Eads. He is an educator from Haswell who will be teaching fifth grade in Wiley this year. Glenda and Colby Stoker were there from Haswell with Glenda’s delicious baked goods. I saw Paul Kelley of the Town of Eads staff come to clean the restrooms. When I complimented him, he said they always clean them every day. That is so awesome! It is amazing how many out-of-town people swing into that rest area. It is one of the few rest areas left in the state. Thank you to the Town of Eads for keeping it open when the state wanted to close it!

I am so grateful to Brandon Hoffman and his special wrench that saved me from so much discomfort and pain when my power chair armrest broke.

Here are names of 10-U baseball players who were champions in the Colby, Kansas Tournament: Liam Eder, Luke Barnet, Brently Buller, Mason Sierra, Jaxon Bohlander, Mayz Gourley, Will Barnett, Chael Cordova, Dallas Alley, and Madyx Hough.

Young ladies from different towns who play on the 12-U softball team include Emma Wollert, Elizabeth Kent, Aubrey Mitchek, Peyton Eder, Reese Barnett, Mika Macias, Aspen Nelson, Jordynn Turcotte, Mia Crow, and Lacie Kraft

The First Baptist Church will host a Vacation Bible School July 24-28 from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. This is a great family opportunity to grow together.

The hospital board has selected two candidates for the community to meet during the Maine Street Bash. One person will be selected the following week to be the new Chief Executive Officer.
