“Those who give to the poor, will lack nothing, but those who close their eyes to the poor will receive many curses.” Proverbs 28:27

The question for this daily devotion was “What immediate need can I make for someone today?’’ When I read that question tonight, I went to my waste basket where my niece stuffed the thirty or more envelopes she had helped me open, but my efficient nurse, Amy Barton, already carried it away to the large dumpster. Tomorrow I will get my letter requests and can donate to some needy people. After I read the government news in the Kiowa County Press, and some articles in the Independent, I know there are needs I can help with. The need of our veterans and children are heaviest on my heart right now.

Johnny Leon came over from Kansas to sing for us August 14. We really enjoy hearing him, and sometimes sing along! We were so happy to see nearly all the Auxiliary .adies come too. Young Charlie Prince was there with his neighbor, Alice Glover, who is the Auxiliary President, and volunteered to video Johnny Leon as he sang as the staff served the beautiful surprise birthday cake for Brenda’s mother, Mrs. Darnell.

We are excited that Johnny Leon is going to sing at the Friday fair breakfast.

My niece, Celena Clark, wrote to tell me about state fair plans, and their daughter’s 4-H projects. All of Eve’s seven projects get to compete in the state fair. Since Elkle is a Clover Bud, she must wait a few years.

Viewers of Facebook have enjoyed seeing several family photos of the “first day of school.” I like that tradition.

Around Eads, Sheridan Lake, Haswell, and other communities, there are heavy hearts and lots of tears following the deaths of two former Eads High School alumni, Delisa Weeks and Brad Larrew. Delisa and Mike Deeks are the parents of Skyler and Darci, who will miss her very much, as well as patrons of the County Clerk’s office will so miss this dear lady. We at the hospital appreciate the extra hours she worked to fill in shifts for people to work, which she did for many years. Her service was August 23 at the Eads Community Church (formerly the Methodist Church). Bradley Larrew’s funeral was August 22 at the Community Building in Eads. His mother, Fran, and sisters planned to serve a meal for the guests bringing salads or desserts. Both were graduates of Eads high school; Delisa in1982 and Brad in 1995.

One of the best photos to me is the one of happy students at the high school who were just presented their Chenille Academic Award letter.

A special treat last Wednesday was when Brenda and Marla arranged for us to have Love’s sub sandwiches and fillings by buying them and bringing them up to our dining rooms, and preparing them to our many preferences. They were served with our Dietariy’s salads and, best overall to me, was homemade ice cream made by Robyn Bohyer. We had several choices; chocolate was mine of course.

As you Readers know, choices of foods are really important to most people, and some like excuses for parties of several kinds. This week, one of the best parties was Monday at noon for a birthday party for Pam Johnston. Since she lives in the hospital part, but we really do like and love her, Brenda Leon set up a pretty table with a rose-pink tablecloth topped with a white lace tablecloth for Pam and Kent to eat their lunch. Their guest was a young lady from the District Court system in Lamar. Her original home was from Cheyenne Wells. Lane and Debbie Gooden came to visit with them.
