Five arrested after search warrants uncover stolen property, fentanyl in Bent County

Five people were arrested Wednesday after deputies executing search warrants in Bent County recovered stolen property and discovered drugs that tested positive for fentanyl, authorities said.

According to the Bent County Sheriff’s Office, deputies served search warrants about 11:40 a.m. Feb. 11 at residences in the 800 block of Sixth Street and the 1900 block of West Sixth Street while investigating reports of property stolen earlier in the week.

During the searches, deputies recovered several items of stolen property and found numerous items of drug paraphernalia along with controlled substances that tested positive for fentanyl, the sheriff’s office said.

Five individuals were taken into custody and transported to the Bent County Jail. Authorities identified those arrested as Yuri Witucki, 58; David Apodaca, 41; Shante Eck, 32; Charles Shupe, 35; and Charles Valencia, 30.

Witucki was arrested on suspicion of child abuse and three counts of being an accessory to a crime for allegedly harboring a fugitive. Apodaca was arrested on suspicion of violating a protection order. Eck was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant from Otero County, while Shupe was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Bent County. Valencia was arrested on an outstanding warrant from Otero County.
