Dear Parents and Guardians,

As this school year is underway, I wanted to update everyone on our attendance policy. Regular school attendance is linked to the success of each student, and classroom interaction and learning experiences are an essential part of the learning process. Frequent tardies and absences can quickly interfere with student progress. However, we do understand that students will occasionally miss school due to illness, appointments, or other activities. Communication from parents/guardians with the school is essential for ALL absences. Please see the Attendance Policy as outlined below.

  1. Elementary attendance is taken twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. Middle School and High School attendance is taken hourly; therefore, each class period missed counts as one hourly absence.
  2. Students are allowed 5 unexcused absences per semester. These absences may include personal circumstances, illness not requiring a doctor's visit, etc. Parents/guardians still need to communicate with the school, and students are required to make up missed assignments. If a student has more than 5 unexcused absences per semester, a meeting with parents/guardians will be scheduled.
  3. Absences will be excused if a doctor's note is provided or if a pre-excuse form is filed out prior to the absence and work is completed upon the student's return.
  • Examples: orthodontist appointments; illness or injury with a doctor’s note provided; court appearances; family emergencies; attending school-sponsored activities as a spectator.
  1. School activities: Missing school to participate in school activities will not be counted as an absence.

As always, we appreciate your support of our school and our students. If you have any questions, please get in touch with me or Mr. Bohlander.

Thank you,

Glenn Smith
