- USDA Update: Fall harvest is wrapping up way ahead of schedule. Yields are ranging from very good to very poor but in general better than expected.
- Wild Horse Roundup-Curtis Schrimp: While at Marty’s, she showed how her computer works. Lee started an e-mail, and wrote two lines then said I would finish. I am pretty proud of how much I wrote with one finger.

- Two Hereford bulls acquired at the Ochs Brother production sale are now roaming the Watts Ranch northeast of Eads. Much of the Ochs Ranch Hereford herd descends for OB Joyful, a bull the ‘accidentally discovered’ while driving on a country road in Alberta, Canada. OB Joyful has contributed his genes to herds in Australia, Africa and both North and South America.
- Ham On Rye: Milo Harvest is in full swing. While driving to Father Keliher’s farewell potluck a passing grain truck was spewing out kernels of grain. It was the truck bed runneth over, so to speak.

- The Chinese Elm tree will be cut down from in front of the Town Hall in Eads soon so the fire truck can get in and out of the garage more easily
- A total of 1414 persons from Kiowa County are registered and qualified to vote in the general election Nov. 2

October 14, 1966
- A 37 year old from KS was stopped in Eads following a high speed chase by police, sheriff’s officers and Colorado State Patrol covering two counties and 53 miles. The chase started west of Granada when the State Patrol tried to pull over the driver for a defective tail light.
- Local teenagers are working hard to organize a Teen Canteen. Two meetings have been held to organize and to formulate plans for locating a building in tow suitable for the group.
- The sale of Smith’s Dry Goods to Mr. & Mrs. Keith Wissel planned to be completed this Friday. Mr. & Mrs. Ellsworth Smith have operated the business for past 13 ½ years have purchase a Baskins-Robbins 31 franchise in Fort Collins.
- Haswell Lumber Company started work on a house for Mr. & Mrs. Olin Johnson of Wild Horse.
- The farm house of Mr. & Mrs. Harvey Kelley narrowly escaped destruction when a fire started in the well house about five feet from the house. A est. of $220 damage to the house and the well house completely destroyed
