Funeral services will be held Monday, September 3, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at the Cheyenne Wells High School (old). Burial will follow in the Arapahoe Cemetery in Arapahoe, CO. Visitation will be held Sunday, September 2, 2018, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the Brown Funeral Home in Cheyenne Wells.
More Improvement in Southeast Colorado Drought Conditions
Periodic storms across southeast Colorado have contributed to further improvements in drought conditions while the western half of the state continues to see the worst of this year’s impacts.
As much as two inches of rain fell in parts of Las Animas, Baca and Prowers counties, contributing to the improvement for the far southeast.
Most of Crowley County, along with lesser portions of Otero, Bent and Kiowa counties, shifted from extreme to severe drought.
Lamar Community College Offers Course in Tax Preparation
Each year, Lamar Community College offers two courses for students and community members interested in learning how to prepare and file tax returns: Individual Income Tax Preparation (ACC 132) and a Lab Practicum (ACC 133).

Bent County Sheriff Warning: Counterfeit Money Circulating in the Area
Bent County has recently been flooded with counterfeit bills. The Bent County Sheriff’s Office is asking people to pay close attention to any $5, $10, $20 or $50 bills they receive.
Currency with the serial numbers listed below is likely to be counterfeit. Anyone spotting one of these bills is urged to contact local law enforcement. Do not attempt to use the counterfeit bills – doing so is a crime.
Flags Lowered to Honor Senator John McCain
Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper and U.S. President Donald J. Trump have ordered flags lowered to half-staff at public buildings until sunset Sunday, September 2 to honor Arizona Senator John McCain.
“John McCain dedicated his life to serving this country,” said Governor Hickenlooper. “We (and the world) lost an incredible leader. He could never have imagined how much he’ll be missed.”
