The deadline to return the US Department of Agriculture’s 2017 Census of Agriculture is February 5. The questionnaire was mailed to every producer in the country by the USDA National Agricultural Statistics Service as part of a regular five-year data collection cycle.
While the form can be returned by mailed by the deadline, ag producers have the option to complete the survey online at https://www.agcounts.usda.gov/cawi. A code from the mailed survey is required in order to submit survey information electronically.
After becoming increasingly worse each week since early December, Colorado’s drought conditions are unchanged from last week. Stable conditions, however, represent grave concerns for much of the state.

The Colorado Department of Transportation reported Saturday afternoon that US Highway 24 was closed in both directions between Vona and Stratton. It has since reopened.
A structure fire in the area led to the closure, which was first reported Saturday at 3:07 p.m. The road was reopened about an hour later.
Information about the building and damages was not immediately available.
The Pueblo Library is hosting a free seminar on growing native plants from seeds and cuttings.
The class will be taught by Ed Roland, Colorado State University Extension Native Plant Master, to help encourage growing native foliage to benefit wildlife, pollinating birds and insects, as well as people. Participants will receive free native seeds as part of their participation.

Claudette Yvonne Williams was born in Lamar, Colorado, May 2, 1939, to Sidney and Marie Porter Canfield. Claudette attended Lamar Union High School, graduating in 1957, and Lamar Junior College. Claudette was the youngest of four children, and proud to be a “native Coloradoan.”
