Director Tanya N. Garfield of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Disaster Field Operations Center-West reminds small nonfarm businesses in 13 Colorado counties and neighboring counties in Kansas of the November 29, 2018, deadline to apply for an SBA federal disaster loan for economic injury. These low-interest loans are to offset economic losses because of reduced revenues caused by drought in the following primary counties that began January 23, 2018.

Home games for the Lamar Community College Basketball teams have been postponed because of a delay in installation of the new scoreboards.  The Lopes now hope to host their home openers on November 12 and 13.

The members of the Weisbrod Hospital Auxiliary met for their October 9, 2018, at J J’s Restaurant for lunch.  Linda Trosper reported that she has already had 17 phone calls requesting space for a Bazaar booth November 17.  She has sent out invitations to possible vendors also.  Nurse-educator Ellen Lane requested a space to tell about strokes.  One lady from the community gave us two exquisitely crocheted afghans for the Auxiliary’s drawing table.  We are accepting items to be in the drawing.

The Bent’s Fort Chapter of the Santa Fe Trail Association will meet Saturday, November 10, at the J. W. Rawlings Heritage Center and Museum located at 560 Bent Avenue in Las Animas. The general meeting will start at 11:00 a.m., followed by a catered lunch (cost $10).

At 1:00 p.m. Dr. Alexa Roberts, Superintendent, and Rick Wallner, Chief of Interpretation, at Bent’s Old Fort National Historic Site will be the guest speakers.

Jacob E Diel

June 17, 1934 - October 27, 2018

Jacob was born June 17, 1934 in Monte Vista to Jacob and Zuma (Martin) Diel. 

He graduated from Monte Vista High School in 1952 and from the University of Wyoming in 1973. 

On August 22, 1959, he married Barbara Jean Brisbois in Denver.
