Explosive Device Discovered During Search in La Junta

La Junta police and fire department members were called to a report of a possible explosive device Thursday morning according to La Junta Fire Chief Aaron Eveatt.

While executing a search warrant in the 500 block of Lawrence, officers with the La Junta Police department discovered the potential explosive object. Assistance was requested from the Southern Region Bomb Squad response team, which arrived mid-afternoon. The team determined the device represented an explosive threat. The U.S. Air Force 21st Explosive Ordnance Disposal team was also requested to assist.

Cold Air Moves in Friday – Snow for the Weekend

A cold front will be moving across eastern Colorado Friday, bringing much cooler temperatures to the eastern plains as the day progresses.

High temperatures for the northeast quarter of the state will largely remain below freezing. Julesburg will only reach the mid-teens while the Sterling and Fort Morgan area will be slightly warmer. Further south, the highs in Limon and Eads will be in the 30s before falling off as the front spreads to the south and west. Springfield and areas further west can expect to reach the 50s, while Trinidad will see 60 for a time.

Prowers County Youth Selected Represent Colorado at National 4-H Conference

In December of 2017, Angelina Downing interviewed with the state 4-H office to represent Colorado at the national 4-H Conference in April of this year. Downing says, “I was a little bit nervous because I interviewed last year and was just out of the running by one person.” As the holidays went by and the new year moved in, Downing waited patiently for the call. At the beginning of January that call was received. Out of several candidates around the state she was selected. Her mother Alicia Downing states, “I have never been so proud of my daughter. She has blossomed because of 4-H”.
