The Colorado Division of Fire Prevention and Control is reminding the public to use caution during Independence Day holiday celebrations and do their part to prevent wildfires.
Colorado principal crop planted acreage, which includes acres planted to all major crops and those expected to be cut for all hay, is down 2 percent from 2017 to 6.14 million acres, according to the June 1 Agricultural Survey conducted by the Mountain Regional Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA.

Above normal temperatures and dry conditions accelerated winter wheat harvest last week, according to the Mountain Region Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA.
Eastern districts received isolated moisture, while western and southern counties remained very dry. Several fires in western and southern Colorado were reported last week.
I never saw 2015’s “Sicario” in theaters, I only knew it by its reputation as a movie that was unfairly overlooked at the Oscars that year. I watched the film in preparation for its sequel “Day of the Soldado”, and maybe it was because the version I saw was edited for television or maybe it was because I watched it from my comfy bedroom instead of the edge of my seat in a theater, but I have to say I was not impressed.

The 4th of July activities at Sheridan Lake have been cancelled due to the dry conditions. May try to have them over the Labor Day weekend. Will keep you informed.
Sheridan Lake and Plainview school lost their electricity due to straight line winds that hit Friday evening and took out around 40 poles. Southeast Colorado Power did a great job of getting electricity back to most everyone by Saturday evening.
