Over $10 Million Raised for Ag Youth in 36 Years

The 54^thColorado’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Junior Livestock Sale at the Colorado State Fair has come to a close. According to preliminary totals, the 2017 sale accumulated approximately $502,525 from generous buyers supporting the state’s agricultural youth. 

State and federal officials have confirmed the presence of invasive quagga mussel larvae, known as veligers, in Green Mountain Reservoir located in Summit County along Hwy 9 between Silverthorne and Kremmling.

U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue administered the oath of office to Tony Tooke, who became the 18th Chief of the U.S. Forest Service, in a ceremony at White Mountain National Forest Friday. Tooke has worked for the Forest Service since age 18 – with 37 total years of service – and until today was the Regional Forester for the Southern Region.

The message from the Department of Veterans Affairs to the friends and families of Veterans during Suicide Prevention Month is simple: Be There.

“We know that in 2014, an average of 20 Veterans a day died in this country from suicide, which is 20 too many,” said VA Secretary David J. Shulkin. “This is a national public health crisis requiring a national public health approach. When it comes to preventing Veteran suicide, VA can’t – and should not – do this alone.”

• Wild Horse Roundup-Curtis Shrimp: I guess Marty has a kind of wild life refuge at her ranch. She called saying her dog was jumping as high as he could up a tree and there was a coon. A calf found out there are porcupines. Deer travel through quite often and a few turkeys and some nights the coyotes sing to her.

A celebration of life for longtime Lamar resident, Elva L. Root will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2017 at the Crosswinds Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Roy Gueswel officiating. Interment will be held at the Eads Cemetery at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 5, 2017. 

Elva was born on August 8, 1935 at Stevens County, Kansas to Floyd and Grace (Gregg) Bevan and passed away on August 30, 2017 at her home in Lamar with her family by her side at the age 82.
