Weisbrod Hospital Auxiliary March Meeting Notes

Guests at the Weisbrod Hospital Auxiliary meeting March13th were Teri Castle, Kelly Darnell, and Ginger McPherson at the J J’s Ranch House for their business and lunch meeting. 

Madonna Pollreis chaired the meeting.  The Treasurer was given $10.00 for inactive dues which will be helpful for our spring expenditures. 

Teri Castle reported that there is a need for volunteers to help with the Health Fair March 24 and 25th.

She also said that she has used most of the “birthday party supplies” that we ordered last year.

Area Agency on Aging Requesting Proposals for Senior Services

The Lower Arkansas Valley Area Agency on Aging (LAVAAA) is requesting proposals from qualified organizations interested in receiving a grant funded under the Older Americans Act to provide services to seniors age 60 and older in Region 6, which includes Baca, Bent, Crowley, Kiowa, Otero, and Prowers Counties. Qualified organizations include nonprofits, for-profits, public agencies, and private incorporated organizations.

Cheyenne, Kiowa, Lincoln Early Childhood Council Fun Tote Program

If you haven’t had a chance to participate in the Cheyenne, Kiowa, Lincoln Early Childhood Council (CKLECC) Fun Tote Program now is a great time!  The program is designed for ages 0 to 8 years old.  The program is a great way for parents and caregivers to interact with their children at home by working on important developmental milestones.  The totes are also a way to prepare children to be more school ready when they begin Kindergarten.

Two Minor Earthquakes in Colorado this Week

Two small earthquakes have shaken parts of Colorado since last Sunday according to the United States Geological Survey.

The first occurred along the Colorado-Utah border, centered three miles north of Parachute or 50 miles south of Grand Junction. It registered as magnitude 2.2 on the Richter Scale, and occurred two miles beneath the surface just after 2:30 Sunday morning.

Bent-Prowers Cattle & Horse Growers Meeting Notes

The Bent-Prowers Cattle & Horse Growers Association donated $1,000 to the Northeast Colorado Fire Disaster Fund during its March board meeting. The disaster funds were an opportunity for local ranchers to help their fellow ranchers in Phillips and Logan counties needing assistance with fire recovery.

The six-county board also voted to nominate Curtis Russell of Sugar City for Colorado Cattlemen’s Association Southeast Colorado Quarter representative. Current rep Bill Hancock of Rocky Ford has declined to seek another term.
