Wildfire Safety and Mitigation

Note: March 12 through 18 is Flood and Wildfire Safety Week in Colorado. This is the sixth article in a series on safety and preparedness. See Thursday’s article here

During this Colorado Flood Safety and Wildfire Awareness Week we have discussed floods, flash floods, and how to stay safe when flooding threatens.  We also told you that areas burned by wildfires are highly susceptible to flash floods within the first two or three years after the wildfire.

Rocky Mountain Conservancy Program - Coyotes: The Song Dogs of the West

Did you know that the Coyote is our country’s second largest canine? Often misunderstood, the coyote has profound impact on our everyday lives. Join the Rocky Mountain Conservancy on March 25 for the Coyotes: The Song Dogs of the West class, taught by Jared Gricoskie, to learn about those impacts and why the coyote is one of the most common predators in the United States.

Congratulations to the Holly boys basketball team on winning Championship at the State Tournament; the Cheyenne Wells boys basketball team on winning 2nd place; the Kit Carson girls basketball team on winning Championship and the Kit Carson boys basket  ball team on winning 3rd place.  All of you should be very proud of your accomplishments and representing our area so well.

Evan and Jen Hopkins and children went to Woodston, KS this past weekend to visit family and friends.

Local middle school girls explore interests, career opportunities

Earlier this month, middle school girls from Lamar, Granada, Holly, Wiley, McClave, Eads, Campo, and Pritchett schools attended the Girls in the Middle Conference held at Lamar Community College. The day was packed with fun-filled activities related to career exploration, following a Survivor theme.  

The conference began with a welcome by Dr. Linda Lujan, Lamar Community College President, followed by keynote speaker, Lauren Jones.
