I really liked “Don’t Breathe,” the horror movie from 2016 with the blind antagonist and potential victims who had to be careful to not make a sound. That movie had interesting characters, a unique setting, and some great scares. “A Quiet Place” keeps the silence, but forgoes the other elements.

Lamar Community College recently welcomed nearly 800 high school students to campus for the Future Farmers of America Career Development Day, the largest crowd yet for the event. Seven Hundred-Eighty FFA members from 42 schools throughout Colorado and Oklahoma attended and competed in a range of events.

A skier who died Sunday in an avalanche near Aspen has been identified as John Galvin, 57, of Roaring Fork Valley.

Fieldwork continued to progress last week despite minor precipitation events across the state, according to the Mountain Region Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service, USDA.
Some areas received scattered moisture last week, but others remained dry and much of the state continued to see adverse effects due to widespread drought conditions. In northwestern counties, the northern mountains saw heavy snow in areas and some rain at lower elevations. A reporter noted that producers were kept out of fields due to rain and melting snow.
Producers are reminded to keep updated livestock inventory records. These records are necessary in the event of a natural disaster. Recent drought disaster declarations may allow producers to become eligible for assistance through a variety of programs.
When disasters strike, the USDA Farm Service Agency (FSA) can assist producers who suffered excessive livestock death losses and grazing or feed losses due to eligible natural disasters.
Veteran Lamar Community College Baseball coach Scott Crampton reached a big milestone over the weekend, winning the 1000th game of his coaching career.
Sunday, Runnin’ Lopes Baseball hosted a doubleheader with Otero Junior College at Merchants’ Park. The Lopes won the first game 4-1, to earn the 1000th win, but they didn’t stop there. They celebrated with a sweep of the Rattlers by winning the second game 5-4, pushing Coach Crampton’s win total to 1001.
