Movie Review - La La Land

By Bob Garver

I’m writing this a little over a week before the Oscar nominations are announced, and there are three movies that I can safely say are a lock for Best Picture: “Moonlight,” “Manchester by the Sea,” and “La La Land.” And of these three, “La La Land” is by far the most likely to win. Simply put, it’s the biggest spectacle. It’s the flashiest, with gimmicky goodies around every corner; goodies like bright colors and trick camera work and of course, musical numbers.

Photo of the Week

One of our most popular features over the past 16 years - a full-page color photo on the front of the Kiowa County Press showing various impressions of life in Kiowa County. While a limited number of copies continue to be printed and distributed each week at Kiowa Healthmart, COOP C-Store in Eads, Haswell Propane, and Thunderbird Petroleum, we wanted to bring this feature to our online readers as well.

The family of Vi Koch would like to express our sincere appreciation for the dedicated care that was given to her during her stay in the hospital. We would like to thank all the doctors, nurses, and her physical therapist for their kindness, care and compassion in keeping her comfortable.

Thank you to all the staff, past and present, that cared for her while she was at Prairie Pines. She enjoyed each and every one of you.

Snake in the Snow? (Photo)

Long-time residents of eastern Colorado, including Kiowa County, will tell you that snakes can be out at any time of year, including some of the warmer winter days. Less common, however, would be to spot a lone rattlesnake in the snow. Mike Johnson came across this one on the McBryde Ranch - hoping for a prairie dog meal.
