Who says everything from 2016 has to be bad? There were plenty of bright spots this year, at least in terms of movies. It’s true that I missed out on some successes, both commercial (“Central Intelligence,” “Bad Moms”) and critical (“Miss Sloane,” “Paterson”), but I think I’ve seen a decent-enough cross-section to make some informed decisions. And of course, if you think I left a film off or you want to talk about the rankings, you can always email me at rrg251@nyu.edu.

Online voting has started to choose the book that every 4-year-old in the state will be reading this spring, along with a little help from parents, siblings, friends and family. Coloradans can visit onebook4colorado.org to cast their vote for one of the three finalists: What Will We Build Today? by Katherine Durgin-Bruce, Worms for Lunch? by Leonid Gore, and Mouse Mess by Linnea Riley.

Sunday, December 11, 2016, at approximately 1815 hours, Kiowa County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 600 Block of Highway 287, Eads, to locate a wanted party, Travis Collins. Deputies located Collins and he was taken into custody.

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) and the City of Lamar is hosting an open house Thursday January 19, 2017 at 6:30 p.m. to kick-off the reconstruction of US Highway 287 through the City of Lamar.  The meeting will be held at the Cultural Events Center located at 102 East Parmenter in Lamar.

After snow fell across much of the state between Wednesday and Thursday evenings, colder temperatures are hanging on longer than anticipated earlier this the week, and may not rise above the freezing mark until Sunday.

Friday will start off cloudy, gradually clearing through the morning. The high will approach 20 before falling below zero overnight. Wind chill will range from 5 to -5 through the day, falling to -5 to -15 overnight.

Saturday’s high is expected to stay just below freezing before returning to single digits overnight.
