Card of Thanks

Words fail me to truly express my sincere thanks and gratefulness to my dear families and friends for all the cards, e-mails, phone calls, verbal greetings for my 80th birthday.  It seems that I celebrated all week!

Melissa Peterson reminded me that I am now an “octogenarian”.  I hadn’t thought of that fact, but now I rejoice, since I remember that I have had a good and blest life.

Photo of the Week

One of our most popular features over the past 16 years - a full-page color photo on the front of the Kiowa County Press showing various impressions of life in Kiowa County. While a limited number of copies continue to be printed and distributed each week at Kiowa Healthmart, COOP C-Store in Eads, Haswell Propane, and Thunderbird Petroleum, we wanted to bring this feature to our online readers as well.

Home Country

By Slim Randles

When Harley Jacobsen came into Doc’s office the other day for his physical it was a treat for Doc.

Harley is one of Doc’s favorite people. Harley is a farmer. A 24/7 farmer.   Ol’ Harley can make hair grow on a bald head and wheat grow on rocks.

When he’d been thumped and bumped and listened to and pumped up and partially drained, Harley asked Doc for the verdict.

“Not bad at all for someone your age, Harley,” Doc said, grinning. “But you look tired.  Take some time off and go fishing or take Gladys to the beach.”
