Over 18 tons of beef products have been recalled due to possible contamination with staphylococcal enterotoxin and clostridial toxin according to the USDA Food Safety and Inspection Service.
Pinnacle Foods, Inc, of Fort Madison, Iowa, is making the recall of the heat-treated, shelf stable products due to a potential “processing deviation” that may have led to contamination. There are no confirmed reports of illness.
Lamar Community College has invited Dr. Kim Hunter Reed, Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Higher Education, to serve as the keynote address for its upcoming 2018 Commencement ceremony.
The ceremony is set for 10:00 a.m. May 5 at the LCC Wellness Center. Over 200 degree or certificate-seeking students are eligible to walk in commencement, including fall 2017 graduates as well as spring and summer 2018 candidates for graduation.

Doc smiled and felt really good inside when he heard the familiar bird song.
“Hey there, Wheezer,” he said, “happy spring!”
For some reason, this mourning dove with the speech impediment comes around to Doc’s back yard every spring, and Doc thinks that’s just all right. If ol’ Wheez didn’t have that distinctive voice, Doc would never know if this bird favored his yard or was just another bird looking for a home. Let’s face it, Wheezer looks just like every other dove in town.
The Colorado State Patrol is investigating a single vehicle crash that claimed the life of man from Swink.
According to information from CSP Trooper Michael Tafoya, John Miguel Narez-Estrada, 28, was driving a 2013 Ford Raptor pickup west on Highway 10 about three miles west of La Junta in Otero county. The vehicle drifted off the right side of the road and crashed into a bridge abutment. The pickup became airborne and was engulfed in flames before it landed in an irrigation canal.
Narez-Estrada was pronounced dead at the scene.
Lamar Community College freshman Nate Hoey has his eye on the College National Finals Rodeo after winning the top spot and the buckle for bull riding at the Casper College Rodeo this past weekend. Teammates Tacie Canfield and Kyeann Gordon also placed in breakaway roping and team roping.
