IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER:

The Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT), Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and local law agencies are joining forces under The Heat Is On campaign to crack down on impaired drivers for the annual Labor Day DUI crackdown. Eighty-two law enforcement agencies from across the state are participating in the effort. The enforcement period begins, Friday, Aug. 19, and runs through Tuesday, Sept. 6.  

The Carbon County, Utah, Sheriff’s Office has announced that Thomas Edward Egley of Rocky Ford, Colorado, has been arrested for the rape and murder of Loretta Jones that occurred in July 1970.

Sergeant David Brewer had reopened the now-46 year old case at the request of the family in 2009, and had recently obtained Egley’s confession to raping and killing Jones, as well as destroying evidence that would have linked him to the case.

Egley is awaiting extradition from Colorado to Utah to face charges.

A chance for showers and thunderstorms continues through Friday night, along with some autumn-like temperatures Friday and Saturday. Snow has already made an appearance for some eastern mountains.

Friday’s high temperature will be around 80. Saturday will be slightly cooler, with a high in the mid-70s ahead of a warm-up early in the week. Mid-to upper 80s return Sunday, continuing through Wednesday. Overnight lows through the period will gradually increase from the low 50s to near 60.
