Work-life balance for working caregivers may be difficult. But you are not alone - among the 44 million unpaid elder caregivers in the US, 75% are employed.

Sally is 49 year old caregiver to her 90 year old mother with Alzheimer's Disease. Sally is also the mother of two teenage sons and she works full time supervising a multi-million dollar program. Between her job, taking her sons to after-school activities, and caring for her mother, she has little time for her own hobbies and interests. Lately she feels distracted at work, a problem referred to as "presenteeism."

Are you considering becoming a legally operating licensed family child care provider?  There are many reasons why people want to start a family child care business.  The most common reason is to stay home with their own children and be able to contribute to their family’s income.  There is a constant demand for more family child care providers throughout Northeast Colorado.  In fact, licensed family child care homes are where the majority of working families find care for their children. 

Adding activity into your day is possible. Choose activities that you enjoy. Adults should aim for at least 2½ hours or 150 minutes of physical activity each week. Every little bit adds up, and doing something is better than doing nothing. Most important — have fun while being active!

1. Take 10

Do at least 10 minutes of activity at a time to reach your weekly goal. Walk the dog for 10 minutes before and after work and add a 10-minute walk at lunchtime.

2. Mix it up

Warmer temperatures will continue through the middle of the week, and the forecast hints at some potential for rain or snow later in the week.

Sunday will be breezy, with north winds gradually increasing to 15 to 25 miles per hour in the morning. The high temperature will be around 70, with an overnight low of 30 expected.

Look for unseasonably warm high temperatures in the low to mid-70s continuing through Wednesday, with overnight lows remaining just above freezing.

American Legion Post #125 annual dinner was held on Friday, November 11, 2016 in the Community Room at the Kiowa County court house.  The dinner was catered by JJ’s Restaurant.  Jennifer and her crew did a wonderful job of preparing and serving the meal.

“Shore is nice this time a-year,” Windy said, smiling at those gathered. “Minds me of years ago back, you know? When we was young.”

Windy, visiting from the ranch, had pulled up a stool so he was partially blocking the hallway entrance – also known as the “escape route” down at the Rest of Your Life retirement home. This made it rather difficult for Mabel, who has to use a walker, and Pop Walker, who is on a cane on good days, and crutches when the weather gets cold. This was a crutch day.

Join Colorado Corn board members and staff on Dec. 7 at the Yuma Community Center (421 E. 2nd St.) to celebrate 2016. 

The Colorado Corn Growers Association (CCGA) will begin its annual business meeting at 4:30 p.m. (all CCGA members are invited), a social hour will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the dinner and awards start at 6:30 p.m. CCAC and CCGA board meetings will also be taking place in conjunction with this event.
