Colorado's senior population is growing at a rapid pace. It is estimated that the number of Coloradans over the age of 65 will reach roughly 1.2 million by 2030, up from 555,000 in 2010. Along with the 120 percent increase in our senior population, it is expected that Colorado seniors will live longer and require more economic resources to afford the services and care they need to age in place.

One of our most popular features from the past 15 years - a full-page color photo on the front of the Kiowa County Press showing various impressions of life in Kiowa County. While a limited number of copies continue to be printed and distributed each week at Kiowa Healthmart, COOP C-Store in Eads, Haswell Propane, and Thunderbird Petroleum, we wanted to bring this feature to our online readers as well.

All ballots must be received - not postmarked - by November 8 deadline to count.

The 2016 General Election is just days away and the U.S. Postal Service is encouraging Colorado voters to mail in their completed ballots now to allow for timely receipt and processing by local election officials.

Each year, Lamar Community College serves as a host site for College Goal Sunday.  Traditionally offered in February, this year’s event will be held in November to correspond with the 2017-18 FAFSA opening date of October 1. 

College Goal Sunday will be held on November 13, 2016, from 1:00-3:00pm in the LCC Betz Technology Center, Room 231.

• John Wesley Brown, a lifelong resident of Kiowa County, will be receiving the Korean War Service Medal.

• Mostly dry, dusty conditions prevailed in Colorado this past week. Weather allowed producers average 7 days suitable for field work but overall moisture supplies to deteriorate.

• Anyone who like to sing is invited to come to the first Christmas Cantata practice.
