USDA Update:. Tuesday numerous tornadoes were spotted thought the county. The FSA office has received some reports of damage including 1 machine shed and several power poles and fences.

Hail stones up to almost three inches in size broke windows, battered cars and windshields and pounded on roofs. Most of the damage focused on the eastern end of Eads.

Disasters overwhelm our city systems and infrastructure. The news often includes reports of damaged transformers or broken water lines. Because these systems are critical to a smoothly operating city, repairing those systems is a high priority.
Disasters also overwhelm people. We have our own inner systems, attention, energy, ability to organize, that get interrupted by emergency situations. These systems are equally critical to protect and repair as soon as possible.
John Launius joined the staff at Sand Creek Massacre National Historic Site (NHS) as an interpretive park guide in March 2016. John brings with him a passion for researching and discussing American history, two traits that will serve him well as he embarks upon a new career with the National Park Service.
Work began this week to rehabilitate the following four culverts in the La Junta and Granada area:
· US Highway 385 M.M 96.56, north of Granada, CO
· SH 109 M.M. 36.54, south of La Junta near the Purgatoire River
· SH 109 M.M. 63.70, north of La Junta near Cheraw
· SH 96 M.M. 107.5, northwest of La Junta near Sugar City
The 2016 Colorado Wheat Field Days will be held June 9-15 across 11 different variety trial sites in eastern Colorado.
