Colorado hunters can expect a better than average waterfowl season in 2016-17. Most duck species remain well above long-term averages, thanks to three consecutive years of wet weather and good nesting conditions across the north central United States and Canada. Waterfowl hunting opportunities in Colorado extend from mid-September teal seasons to light goose conservation seasons ending in April.

Colorado Senator Cory Gardner has called for Presidential candidate Donald Trump to step aside following the discovery of audio from 2005 in which he made remarks deemed derogatory and abusive to women.

After a plant-killing frost last week, temperatures will vary widely over the coming week.

Sunday’s high will be in the mid-70s, with a slight chance of afternoon and evening thunderstorms. Overnight temperatures will drop to the mid-40s.

Look for daytime temperatures around 80 Monday and Tuesday, with another slight chance of thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon and evening.

Wednesday will be the coolest day of the week as cooler, dry air filters in from the north and temperatures struggle to reach the low 60s, with mid-30s overnight.

The Eads Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with the National Park Service, will be sponsoring a free special program October 20^th from 6:00-700 PM at Prairie Pines concerning tax credits available for Historic Preservation projects. Snack foods will be available beginning at 5:30 for a $2.00 per person donation.

The State of Colorado developed the tax credit in 2014 and over fifteen projects have been awarded the tax credit status. The tax credit creates jobs, preserves resources, supports small business and helps to revitalize communities.

The Rocky Mountain Prevention Research Center from the Colorado School of Public Health is hosting the Healthy Eaters, Lifelong Movers (HELM) Summit for school and health professionals from Southeast Colorado and the San Luis Valley on October 19th at Otero Junior College in La Junta.

It’s fall and time once again for the Chipper Invitational Golf Tournament here in the valley. You remember Chipper, Doc’s imaginary squirrel? The one who was imaginarily squirrel-napped?

Doc named the annual golf tournament after good ol’ Chipper. The tournament is used to raise money for coats for kids who need them. And it’s only fit and proper it be named for Chipper, since the golf tournament itself is just about as genuine as the squirrel.

The Regular Kiowa County Commissioner’s Meeting was called to order by Chairman, Richard Scott on September 15, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. Commissioner Oswald opened the meeting with prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Those in Attendance:
