The Kiowa County Commissioner’s Regular meeting was called to order on February 8, 2018 at 09:00 a.m. by Chairman, Richard Scott who opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and prayer. Those in attendance were:

Oswald moved and McLoud seconded the motion to approve the minutes as presented. Motion carried.

The Internal Revenue Service is reminding farmers and fishers about the March 1 deadline to take advantage of special rules that can allow them to forgo making quarterly estimated tax payments.

Anyone with income from a farming or fishing business may be able to avoid making any estimated tax payments by filing their 2017 return and paying the entire tax due on or before March 1, 2018. This rule generally applies if farming or fishing income was at least two-thirds of the total gross income in either 2017 or the preceding tax year.

Signs are being installed along roadways across Colorado to honor State Patrol members who have died in the line of duty.

Two were recently unveiled along US Highway 40/287 in Lincoln County south of Hugo in memory of Patrolman Melvin E. Phillips and Patrolman Floyd E. Gresham. Both were killed during a traffic stop February 2, 1956.

The Internal Revenue Service today advised taxpayers that in many cases they can continue to deduct interest paid on home equity loans.

The congregation of Kit Carson Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church hosted the Installation ceremony of Rev. Thomas Barton February 18, 2018.  The ceremony was followed by a pot luck meal in the Fellowship Room.
