Dense fog lingers in Cheyenne Wells Friday; windy, wet Monday ahead
Dense fog is expected to linger into late morning Friday in Cheyenne County, with a high near 64 under cloudy skies, and foggy, mostly cloudy weather could continue through the weekend before a windy, wet Monday, the National Weather Service in Goodland, Kan., said.
A Dense Fog Advisory for the Cheyenne Wells area remains in effect until noon Friday, with areas of dense fog before 11 a.m. Skies stay cloudy afterward, with south winds of 5 to 15 mph. Friday night brings a 20 percent chance of showers between midnight and 2 a.m., widespread dense fog mainly between 11 p.m. and 3 a.m., and a low around 46.
A meteorologist with the National Weather Service forecast office in Goodland, Kan., wrote in Friday’s Area Forecast Discussion that fog chances continue through Sunday and that forecasters “have all the necessary ingredients for a high wind day” on Monday, though the strength of the winds remains uncertain.
Monday brings wind, showers and possible blowing dust
Cheyenne County is forecast to see a 50 percent chance of showers after noon Monday, a high near 57 and windy conditions. A strong cold front from the northwest is expected to move through, and the Goodland office said counties along and west of the Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska borders could see the strongest winds, with gusts up to 60 mph possible. Forecasters said the eastern part of their coverage area could see gusts up to 40 mph.
Forecasters said blowing dust is something to watch for Monday in areas that miss the rain and dry out, although recent fog has kept the ground saturated. Monday night brings a 40 percent chance of showers, mainly before midnight, a low near 39 and continued wind. No Red Flag Warning was listed for Cheyenne County.
