The Colorado Public Utilities Commission will hold virtual public comment hearings April 2 on a proposed natural gas rate increase from Atmos Energy.
Atmos Energy is seeking to increase annual base rate revenues by about $17.56 million, a 13.8 percent increase, according to the filing with the commission.
If approved, average monthly residential bills would increase by about $5.47 in the North rate area, $5.32 in the Southeast rate area and $5.61 in the Southwest rate area, depending on location.
The company filed its request November 25, 2025, citing costs associated with system operations and infrastructure investment. Atmos is also seeking approval for a new rider, or billing charge, related to the effects of the 2022 Inflation Reduction Act and potential changes to state and federal tax laws.
The commission is reviewing the proposal to determine whether the rates are just and reasonable. The case is identified as Proceeding No. 25AL-0499G.
Public comment hearings will be held virtually in two sessions April 2. The morning session is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and the afternoon session from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Each session may end earlier after public comment concludes, but not before 12:15 p.m. and 5:15 p.m., respectively.
Atmos Energy provides natural gas service to 65 Colorado communities, including Lamar, Canon City, Durango, Gunnison, Salida, Craig, Steamboat Springs and Greeley.
