By Christmas Eve, we are expecting conditions to be mostly cloudy, with a high in the low 50s. Look for partly sunny skies and highs in the upper 40s for Christmas Day.

Cool temperatures and mostly dry is the forecast for the week between Christmas and New Year's, with highs in the 40s and lows in the upper teens.

Death Notice - Alma Jean Mays Smith

Alma Jean Smith

March 14, 1940 – December 6, 2019

Alma Jean Mays born to Herman and Floy Mays March 14, 1940. She attended Eads schools and graduated in 1958 from Eads High School.

Jean worked in real estate out of the Denver, Colorado, area many years. Jean and her husband, Jim, loved stock car racing, and attended many events from the little track at Lakeside, Colorado, to the big NASCAR races.

After her husband retired, Jean and Jim moved to Pueblo West to make their home.

One found dead following structure fire in Las Animas

The Bent County Sheriff’s Office is investigating following a fire Saturday in the 1700 block of 8th Street in Las Animas.

One person was found dead at the home, and BCSO has termed the location as “an active crime scene” in a social media post. The person’s identity has not been released.

Eighth Street between Park and McAfee Avenues, as well as the intersection of 8th Street and McBride Avenue are closed and not expected to reopen until at least Monday.
